Welcome to My World of Movement & Storytelling

I’m Naila Brown, a dancer, storyteller, and movement artist committed to using dance as a vessel for healing, transformation, and social change. Beyond performance, I am an avid dance instructor, dedicated to guiding both children and adults in discovering the power of movement. I believe dance is not just an art form but a tool for self-expression, confidence, and connection. Whether in a classroom, studio, or community space, I strive to create an environment where all bodies feel seen, valued, and empowered. Thank you for visiting. I invite you to explore, engage, and join this journey with me.

Artist Statement

Naila Brown (She/Her) is a neurodivergent Black woman from the Bay Area whose love for dance began at age four with ballet. Her connection deepened after seeing Alvin Ailey’s company at Zellerbach Hall, where she first witnessed the power of storytelling through movement.

Raised on family stories of resilience—spanning from Native tribes and enslaved ancestors to sharecroppers and business owners—Naila found inspiration in their brilliance and strength. These narratives shaped her artistic purpose: to illuminate untold histories and explore themes of identity, mental health, and social justice.

While at Howard and in the DMV, she collaborated with Black storytellers to amplify these voices. During this time, she faced a mental health diagnosis and profound personal loss, turning to dance as a means of healing and self-discovery. Movement became her refuge, guiding her through grief and uncertainty.

Naila’s work strives to make the deeply personal universally resonant. Through dance, she explores gender inequality, racial injustice, spirituality, and the complexities of mental health. She believes art should challenge, heal, and empower—giving voice to the unheard and light to the unseen. By weaving ancestral wisdom with contemporary narratives, she brings life to the stage, offering both reflection and transformation.
